Secret Ingredient: Garlic
Fresh garlic gives the tilapia a strong savoury flavour without needing a heavy sauce.
Combined with lemon, paprika and dhania, it creates a simple marinade that works especially well with fish.
Nutritionist’s Tip
Fish doesn’t need to be complicated.
If you’re trying to eat more nutritious meals, keep the formula simple:
Protein + lots of vegetables + a sensible carbohydrate portion.
For a complete meal, serve the tilapia with one moderate portion of ugali, sweet potato, arrowroot or brown rice.
For Weight Management
Tilapia is naturally protein-rich and relatively lean, making it useful for a filling meal.
To keep the overall meal balanced:
- Use measured amounts of oil.
- Make vegetables the largest part of the plate.
- Choose one moderate starch portion.
- Avoid creamy or oily sauces.
For Better Blood-Sugar Balance
This meal is naturally low in carbohydrate before adding a starch.
If you have it with ugali, rice or another carbohydrate, keep the portion moderate and pair it with the fish and generous vegetables.
Avoid turning the meal into a high-carbohydrate plate by combining several starches at once.
Want More Protein?
You can:
- Increase the tilapia portion.
- Add a boiled egg.
- Add a small serving of beans or ndengu.
- Serve with plain unsweetened yoghurt as a side.
